Financial Promotions Guide

4.1 // Pop-ups and Call to Actions

Pop-ups

Website pop-ups are windows that appear on your screen when you’re on a website. They can range from small to full-size message boxes and graphics that will often appear automatically.

Financial promotions on website pop-ups should not obscure key information or risk warnings about the product or service.

Call to Actions

Any call to action (CTA) should clearly communicate what will happen if the user clicks on a link or button. The CTA should not be vague, and users should not be pressured to click through.

Third-Party Content and Affiliate Links

In most cases, if your website links to a different website, you are not responsible for the compliance of the linked website.

However, you are responsible for compliance with the linked website if you have made arrangements to drive traffic from your website to another, particularly when the linked website contains invitations and inducements to engage in financial activities.
